Stress and Strains
When external forces are applied to objects made of elastic material ,they produce changes in shapes and size of the object . The relationship between the stress and strain that a particular material displays is known as that particular material's stress–strain curve. It is unique for each material and is found by recording the amount of deformation at distinct intervals of tensile or compressive loading . These curves reveal many of the properties of a material (including data to establish the Modules of Elasticity, E).
Strain
Strain is the relative changes in shape of an object due to externally applied forces .
Stress
Stress is the internal force associated with a strain .
