Reflection of wave

The behavior of waves traveling along a rope from a more dense medium to a less dense medium (and vice versa) was discussed. The wave doesn't just stop when it reaches the end of the medium. Rather, a wave will undergo certain behaviors when it encounters the end of the medium.

Specifically, there will be some reflection off the boundary and some transmission into the new medium. It gives background information and further details on equations, linear media, superposition and reflection at boundaries between media with different properties.

Reflection is the change in direction of a wave front at an interface between two different media so that the wave front returns into the medium from which it originated.

Common examples include the reflection of light, sound and water waves. The law of reflection says that for specular reflection the angle at which the wave is incident on the surface equals the angle at which it is reflected. Mirrors exhibit specular reflection.
